Can I keep horses in Macomb Township?

Yes in AG and R-1-S, no elsewhere. Private stables for recreational horse keeping are permitted in the AG district with at least 5 acres for the first 2 horses and 1 more acre for each additional horse (Sec. 10.0402.E.1). A foal from your own mare gets a 2 year grace period against the acreage count. The land must be fenced to keep horses contained, stable buildings stay 50 feet from property lines, and pens and corrals stay 100 feet from any residence (Sec. 10.0402.E.2-3). The R-1-S district inherits the AG use list at the same standards (Sec. 10.0502).

In R-1-E, private stables are expressly prohibited, and the no-livestock rule covers R-1-E, R-1, and the R-2 and R-3 districts (Sec. 10.0602.A-B). Commercial boarding is different: public stables, riding academies, and hunt clubs are special land uses in AG needing at least 40 contiguous acres and 2 acres per stabled horse (Sec. 10.0403.H).
