What is the required parking space size in Troy, Michigan?

A standard parking space in Troy is 9.5 feet wide by 19 feet long when set at 90 degrees, served by a 24 foot drive aisle (Table 13.06-B). Spaces set at lesser angles may be 9 feet wide (Table 13.06-B).

Key numbers:

  • 90 degree space: 9.5 ft x 19 ft
  • Aisle for 90 degree parking: 24 ft
  • Angled space width: 9 ft

These dimensions apply when laying out a parking lot, and they interact with other lot standards. Paved areas must stay at least 10 feet from side and rear lot lines that abut residential property (Section 13.06.C.3), and the entire lot must be surfaced in concrete or asphalt, not gravel (Section 13.06.J.2).

For a residential driveway, the dimensions matter less than the count. A house needs 2 spaces on the premises (Table 13.06-A). For layout questions on a commercial site, call Planning at 248-524-3364.
