What are the political sign rules in Rochester Hills?
From 60 days before an election through 3 days after it, the aggregate area of temporary freestanding signs at a Rochester Hills property may reach 64 square feet (§ 134-9). That is the special election window.
Outside the window, the standard temporary sign limits apply at a single-family home: up to two freestanding signs of 6 square feet each, no taller than 7 feet, plus two wall signs of 2 square feet (§ 134-9). A sign under 12 square feet needs no permit, one per address (§ 134-4(1)a.5).
The expanded allowance ends 3 days after the election. After that, the normal limits apply again, so plan to bring sign area back within them (§ 134-9). For permit questions, contact Planning and Economic Development at 248-656-4660.
