Can I put a permanent sign at my house in Rochester Hills?

No. A permanent sign is not allowed at a single-family house in Rochester Hills. Monument signs are not permitted at single-family dwellings (§ 134-5(1)), and wall signs are not permitted either (§ 134-6(1)).

Temporary signs are what the ordinance allows at a house: up to two freestanding signs of 6 square feet each, no taller than 7 feet, plus two wall signs of 2 square feet (§ 134-9).

Neighborhood entrances are a separate case. A subdivision or multi-family complex may have one entrance monument of up to 7 feet and 20 square feet within 100 feet of each entrance, not internally illuminated (§ 134-5(1), (2)f).

If you believe your situation calls for an exception, the Sign Board of Appeals hears sign variances (§ 134-12).
