What are the rules for a for-sale sign in Rochester Hills?
A for-sale or lease sign in Rochester Hills may stay up for the duration of the listing (§ 134-9). It is not tied to the 30-day display cycle that governs other permitted temporary signs.
Size rules:
- The standard residential allowance is a freestanding temporary sign of 6 square feet, up to 7 feet tall, with a maximum of two freestanding signs per home (§ 134-9).
- Lots over 1 acre may use a 12 square foot sign (§ 134-9).
- A sign under 12 square feet needs no permit, one per address (§ 134-4(1)a.5).
Once the listing ends, the sign should come down, since its allowance runs with the listing (§ 134-9). For questions about larger signs, contact Planning and Economic Development at 248-656-4660.
