How big does a parking space have to be in Birmingham?
Birmingham's zoning ordinance defines a parking space by area: at least 180 sq ft, exclusive of aisles (§ 9.02). That is the only dimensional rule the zoning chapter gives.
The ordinance does not state stall width, stall length, or aisle widths. Those design details sit in Chapter 110 of the City Code, outside the zoning ordinance. Do not back specific dimensions out of the 180 sq ft figure, and do not borrow a stall size from another city; a conforming layout depends on what Chapter 110 actually requires.
Treat 180 sq ft as the zoning floor and get the layout standards before drawing a site plan. Check Chapter 110 or ask the Planning Division at 248-530-1850 to confirm stall and aisle dimensions, especially for a commercial lot where the space count and the geometry both have to work.
