Is a gravel driveway allowed in Rochester Hills?
Yes. Gravel is an allowed driveway surface in Rochester Hills. The parking ordinance lists asphalt, concrete, brick pavers, gravel, aggregate, or similar materials as acceptable residential driveway surfaces (§ 138-11.102.D).
The driveway still has to do its job. A single- or two-family home needs two parking spaces per dwelling unit (§ 138-11.204), and they must be on the premises in a driveway, garage, or parking strip (§ 138-11.102.D). Front-yard parking is allowed only in a driveway or garage, so the gravel surface should be a defined driveway, not a widening of the lawn.
