How big does a driveway parking space need to be in Rochester Hills?
A standard parking space in Rochester Hills is 10 feet wide by 18 feet long at 90 degrees, with a 24-foot two-way maneuvering lane where one applies (§ 138-11.302).
Residential driveways may use tandem spaces, where one car parks behind another:
- A tandem space must be at least 10 feet wide (§ 138-11.302.K).
- A garage space plus the driveway space behind it counts as a tandem pair if the combined length is at least 50 feet (§ 138-11.302.K).
A house needs two spaces per dwelling unit (§ 138-11.204), so a typical garage-plus-driveway layout works if the depth is there. Measure the combined length before assuming the tandem pair meets the rule. For help reading the standards, contact Planning and Economic Development at 248-656-4660.
