Where are marihuana businesses allowed in Ferndale?

Marihuana uses are allowed only in the industrial districts, I-1 and I-2, and only as special land uses with additional standards (Section 2.05). They are not permitted in the CBD, the mixed-use districts, or any residential district.

A special land use requires a site plan, a public hearing before the Planning Commission, and a separate hearing with final approval by City Council, evaluated against the Section 10.04 standards (Section 10.03.A). The approval expires in 2 years if not acted on, though CED may extend it up to 18 months, and a denied application cannot be resubmitted for 2 years (Section 10.05).

I-1 and I-2 sites require a 10,000 sq ft minimum lot and carry 20 ft setbacks where they abut R-1 or R-2 (Section 2.12). State licensing applies on top of zoning. Confirm the use-specific standards and any local licensing steps with CED at 248-336-4370.
