What are the driveway rules in Ferndale?
Driveways are regulated by Section 7.03.C, and the rules are specific. The surface must be asphalt, concrete, or pervious pavement, with reinforced grass strips allowed alongside.
Size and placement limits:
- The driveway may be at most 3 ft wider than the garage opening on each side
- Without a garage, the parking area may cover at most 50% of the front yard and may not sit directly in front of the house
- Circular front driveways are prohibited
- One curb cut per frontage
- A 1 ft lawn strip is required to the lot lines
Lawn parking is prohibited (Section 7.03.B.4), and front-yard parking is not permitted at all in MXD-1, MXD-2, or the CBD (Section 7.03.B.1). Two-way driveways must be at least 20 ft wide (Section 7.03.D). For corner lots or unusual configurations, confirm the layout with CED at 248-336-4370.
