How many parking spaces does my business need in Orion Township?

The ratio depends on your district and use, because Orion Township sets parking in each district article rather than one citywide table (Section 27.04.A.2.h.vi).

  • Retail, personal services, banks (GB and RB): 1 space per 200 square feet of gross floor area (Section 14.03.C; Section 11.03.C).
  • Restaurants: 1 per 100 square feet (Section 14.03.C; Section 11.03.C).
  • Theaters: 1 per 3 seats (Section 14.03.C).
  • Offices (OP): 1 per 300 square feet general, 1 per 250 medical, 1 per 500 for research and design facilities (Section 9.03.C).
  • Industrial (LI): 1 per 1,000 square feet or 1 per employee, whichever is greater, plus a 25 percent bump for multi-shift operations (Section 16.03.C).
  • Multiple-family: 2 per unit plus 1 visitor space per 3 units (Section 7.03.C).
  • Places of worship and clubs: 1 per 3 persons of maximum occupancy, in every district that lists them.

Fractions of one-half or more round up (Section 27.04.A.2.h.vi). The Planning Commission can modify any ratio on parking evidence, and can approve banked parking held in reserve as green space (Section 14.03.C.2; Section 27.04.A.1.e). Standard stalls are 9 by 19 feet with a 22 foot aisle at 90 degrees, and accessible spaces follow the Section 27.04 table. A change of use re-triggers the calculation for the new use (Section 27.04.A.1.a.iii).
