Can I park an RV or boat at my house in Orion Township?
Yes, indefinitely, if it is yours, licensed, and operable (Section 27.04.C.2.c). The placement rules:
- Side or rear yard: allowed in all single-family districts, at least 10 feet from side and rear lot lines.
- Front yard in SF, SE, SR: one RV, or one trailer carrying up to two small craft like snowmobiles or jet skis, outside the required front setback.
- Front yard in R-1, R-2, R-3: same one-RV allowance, with at least 20 feet between the street edge and the vehicle.
- Within 10 feet of a property line in the front yard area: a Building Department permit is required, which can come with screening conditions.
Hard limits: a parked travel trailer or motor home may not be hooked to sanitary facilities or lived in (Section 27.04.C.2.c.ii). Temporary occupancy, for guests for example, needs a permit and is capped at three months per year, no more than six consecutive weeks (Section 27.04.C.2.a). Unlicensed or inoperable vehicles of any kind may not be stored outdoors (Section 27.04.C.2.a).
Storing the RV in a building instead? The accessory building size table in Section 27.02.A.8 and the relative height rule in Section 27.02.A.5 control how big that garage can be.
