How close to the property line can I build a shed in Macomb Township?

A detached accessory building under 150 square feet may sit as close as 5 feet to a side or rear property line. Larger detached accessory buildings, including garages, pool houses, and bigger sheds, need 7.5 feet from side and rear lines. Either way the building stays at least 10 feet from the house and out of any utility easement or right-of-way (Sec. 10.0331.3).

Sheds are allowed in the rear yard only (Sec. 10.0331.2). On a corner lot, the shed must also hold the full front setback from both streets, the same as the house (Sec. 10.0331.4). In R-1 the district article separately sets a 25 foot rear setback for accessory structures where the rear yard abuts a public road situation described in Sec. 10.0704.D.3.b; ask the Building Department which line controls on a through or corner lot. Grading between the shed and the property line may not change the existing drainage pattern (Sec. 10.0331.3).
