Can I add an accessory dwelling unit?

In most Round Rock single-family districts, no. The residential use table permits a connected accessory dwelling unit only in SF-3 (Sec. 2-25). ADUs are allowed with supplementary standards in C-2 and OF-1 (one per platted lot, occupied by the owner or manager of the principal use, Sec. 2-91(a)(1)), in MU-L (capped at 625 square feet above a garage, Sec. 2-91(a)(2)), and in MU-2 and MU-R (Sec. 2-77). Garage conversions in single-family districts may not operate as a separate dwelling unit (for example Sec. 2-14(d)). Start by confirming the zoning district on the city's interactive map (maps.roundrocktexas.gov/cityview) or with Planning and Development Services at 512-218-5428. This pack covers incorporated Round Rock only; ETJ and unincorporated county land have no municipal zoning.
