How much parking is required?

Single-family dwellings require 1 off-street parking space per unit, or 2 spaces per unit if the parking is provided in an enclosed garage (UDO Sec. 9.4). Nonresidential uses have their own ratios in the Sec. 9.4 table; for example, general office space requires 1 space per 250 square feet. Maximum parking caps, shared parking, satellite parking, and off-street loading are addressed in Secs. 9.4.1 through 9.4.5. Vehicle parking area design standards are in Sec. 9.5, and bicycle parking standards are in Sec. 9.6. Exact ratios for every nonresidential use category are review-gated pending a full read of the Sec. 9.4 table; confirm the ratio for your specific use with the Planning Department at 919-435-9510 before relying on it. This pack covers the July 2022 UDO, the version currently in force.
