How much parking is required?
Single-family detached dwellings require 2 off-street parking spaces per dwelling (LDO Art. N, Sec. 9-1652). Nonresidential uses have their own ratios: general office space requires 1 space per 400 square feet of gross floor area, and general retail requires 1 space per 350 square feet, or a minimum of 5 spaces, whichever is greater. Minimum parking bay dimensions are 9 feet by 18 feet with a 24-foot travel lane, for both residential and nonresidential parking. In the Residential Mixed-Use (RMU), Commercial Mixed-Use (CMU), and Employment Mixed-Use (EMU) districts, parking may be set by market demand rather than a fixed ratio. Exact ratios for every other use category (multi-family, restaurant, industrial, and others) are review-gated pending a full read of the Sec. 9-1652 table; confirm the ratio for your specific use with the Planning Department at 919-552-1429 before relying on it.
