How much parking is required?

Parking is set by use under the citywide Off-Street Parking Schedule A (Table 8.3-1), not by zoning district. Single-family dwellings need 2 spaces per unit; townhouses need 2 spaces per unit plus 0.25 spaces per unit for guest parking; multi-family or apartment units need 1.5 spaces per unit for 1-2 bedroom units and 1.8 spaces per unit for 3+ bedroom units. Congregate care needs 1 space per unit and assisted living needs 0.5 space per unit or bed. Commercial and institutional uses (churches, schools, hospitals, government services, and more) have their own ratios in the same table, several of which reference Schedule B or C for less common uses. The Central Business District has no minimum parking requirement in existing platted commercial areas. Confirm the applicable ratio for the specific use with Planning and Community Development at 919-249-3426.
