How do I request a variance?

Variances go to the Board of Zoning Appeals: schedule a pre-application conference under Section 8.5.4.B, file the written application with the exhibits required for site development plan review, and attend the public hearing, which must be held within 60 days of filing. Section 8.5.16.D lists what can be varied, including floor area ratio, lot width or area, impervious coverage, parking, signs, nonconforming use extensions, and vehicular lane dimensions. For small dimensional relief, ask Development Services whether an Administrative Adjustment under Section 8.5.8 fits your case first; it is a faster, staff-level path. Administrative decisions can be appealed under Section 8.5.17.
