Do I need special approval for my use?
Check how your district's own section (Secs. 158.060 through 158.155) classifies your use. Each conventional district lists Permitted Principal Uses and Structures (allowed by right) separately from Special Exception Uses, which require review and specific approval by the City Council rather than administrative sign-off. A use not listed in either category for your district is not allowed without a rezoning. Most permitted and all special exception uses are also subject to site plan review under Secs. 158.235 through 158.245. Confirm your zoning district and the exact use classification with the Planning and Zoning Department at 772-871-5212 before assuming a use is allowed.
