ZoningVerdict

Can I run a home business here?

Yes, with a permit. Columbia recognizes two classes: a Minor Home Occupation approved administratively by the Zoning Administrator, and a Major Home Occupation that needs Board of Zoning Appeals approval as a conditional use. All home occupations must stay incidental to the residential use, keep all activity free of outside storage or display, avoid exterior changes to the home's residential character, limit signs to what Article 7 allows, avoid large-volume commercial deliveries, and hold any required state licenses. Minor home occupations must operate entirely inside the principal structure. Apply under Section 8.5.10.
