Can I run a business out of my home?
Home occupations are governed by Sec. 14.02.108 and must remain compatible with the residential neighborhood. The saved current text limits the work to members of the immediate family occupying the dwelling, inside the enclosed dwelling or garage, using no more than 25% of one story. It bars exterior character changes, visible outdoor storage or display, nuisance effects, traffic or parking increases above two additional vehicles at a time, and utility use beyond neighborhood averages. One nonilluminated sign up to 4 square feet may be placed on the main building. Examples that do not qualify include auto repairs, vehicle or boat painting, private schools, and television repair. The Board of Adjustment interprets whether a use is within the home-occupation provisions.
