Can I put a 6 foot privacy fence on my property line in Novi?

Along side and rear lot lines, yes. Novi allows fences that enclose property, including fences in required side yards, up to 6 feet tall (Section 5.11.1.A.i), and the ordinance does not push them off the lot line the way some neighboring communities do.

The limit is at the front: the fence may not extend past your minimum front yard setback line toward the street, or past the front of your house if the house sits closer (Section 5.11.1.A.ii). So a 6 foot privacy fence can run along the property line beside and behind the house, then must stop at the front setback line or front wall.

Build it with comparable materials on both sides, or put the finished side outward (Section 5.11.1.C; Section 5.11.3.C). Scrap material, chicken wire, corrugated or sheet metal, and similar materials are prohibited (Section 5.11.3.A), and the fence must be kept in good repair (Section 5.11.3.B). A pool safety barrier and garden fences 2 feet or shorter are exempt from the general fence standards (Section 5.11.3.D).
