Can I park my RV or boat at my house in Shelby Township?

Yes, with placement rules. A recreational vehicle, motor home, travel trailer, utility trailer, or boat may be parked or stored on your property if it stays at least 5 feet from any building or lot line, and whenever the parking space abuts a street it must sit behind the front or side building elevation facing that street (Section 3.29.H). Parking any of these on a vacant residential parcel is prohibited.

Commercial trailers are banned entirely on residential premises regardless of size (Section 3.29.I). One commercial motor vehicle used by an occupant may be kept if it weighs 8,000 pounds GVW or less, parked in the driveway behind the required building setback line; when not in daily use or unlicensed, it must be garaged (Section 3.29.G).

Note that in multiple-family developments and mobile home parks the rule is stricter: commercial vehicles, boats, campers, and trailers may not be stored on the premises outside a secured storage area (Section 3.31.C; Section 5.21.B.1.f).
