Can I build a fence in Smyrna?

Yes, fences are allowed on any developed lot in any district. They may run along side and rear property lines but may not encroach on the front yard setback the house faces or on any public right-of-way. A decorative fence up to 3 ft tall in wood, wrought iron, vinyl, or brick may stand in the front setback, limited to 10 horizontal feet per parcel in sections of 5 ft or less. Keep fences out of utility and drainage easements unless the Director of Utilities or Town Engineer approves in writing, and barbed, razor, or concertina wire is prohibited in residential districts. Fences are not allowed on undeveloped parcels.
