Can I build a fence?
Yes, subject to LDC 155.655. Residential fences, walls, and hedges are capped at 6 feet along or adjacent to a lot line (8 feet where the lot line adjoins a non-residential use), measured from grade. A fence generally may not encroach into the front yard setback (limited exceptions apply for certain corner lots and for the R-MH district), and within 25 feet of a street intersection or within any front setback the limit drops to 2 feet to preserve sight lines. Barbed wire is prohibited on residential property except in the R-E and A districts, and prohibited on Community Facility, Recreation, and Commercial property; industrial districts may allow it through development review. The finished side must face the abutting property or street when feasible, and fences may never block fire hydrants, water valves, water meters, sewer clean-outs, or utility access.
