Fences in Pembroke Pines, FL

What the Pembroke Pines zoning ordinance says about fences, district by district. Section numbers link to the official ordinance.

R-MH — Residential Mobile Home

A fence in the R-MH front yard setback may not exceed 36 inches, must be decorative aluminum or wood, and must be no more than 50 percent opaque. It may not obstruct sight distance triangles, fire hydrants, water valves, water meters, or sewer clean-outs.

All districts

Residential fences, walls, and hedges are capped at 6 feet along or adjacent to a lot line in any yard, or 8 feet where the lot line adjoins a non-residential use. Height is measured from grade. A fence may not encroach into the front yard setback, except a corner-lot fence facing the street side (Planning and Economic Development discretion) or an R-MH front-yard fence under LDC 155.423(D)(5). In any residential district, a fence, wall, or hedge in the front setback or within 25 feet of a street intersection may not exceed 2 feet. Barbed wire is prohibited on residentially zoned or used property except in the R-E and A districts, and is prohibited on Community Facility, Recreation, and Commercial zoned property (industrial districts may allow it through development review). The finished side must face the abutting property or street when feasible, and sight lines and utility access (hydrants, valves, meters, clean-outs) may never be obstructed.
