Can I build a fence?
Yes, subject to Sec. 505.8. On a residential lot, a fence is capped at 6 feet, and barbed wire is prohibited. A front-yard fence or wall (up to 6 feet) is only allowed in the RL, Estate (E), and RS1 districts; other residential districts do not allow a front-yard fence. Wood fences must use pressure-treated pine, redwood, cypress, black locust, or cedar at a nominal one-inch thickness. On non-residential property, a fence adjacent to residential property is capped at 8 feet, and a fence adjacent to other non-residential property is capped at 10 feet; walls are allowed in a required bufferyard but not in a required front yard. Fences are prohibited in a utility easement unless the property was platted after January 1, 1996 and an encroachment agreement is obtained. Confirm the current zoning district on the city's GIS zoning map or with the Building, Planning and Zoning Department (954-602-3200) before building. This pack covers incorporated Miramar city limits only.
