Fences in Miramar, FL

What the Miramar zoning ordinance says about fences, district by district. Section numbers link to the official ordinance.

All districts

Fences on a residential lot are limited to 6 feet in height. Barbed wire is prohibited on fences or walls in residential districts. A fence or wall may be built within a required front yard only in the RL, E, and RS1 districts, up to 6 feet, subject to sight-visibility-triangle requirements. Only pressure-treated pine, redwood, cypress, black locust, or cedar wood, at a nominal one-inch thickness, is acceptable for wood fence construction. Perimeter and entry walls for residential development parcels may be erected within a required bufferyard; barbed wire is prohibited and walls must be designed to discourage graffiti. On non-residential parcels, walls are permitted within a required bufferyard at the parcel perimeter but not in a required front yard; fences adjacent to residential property are capped at 8 feet, and fences adjacent to other non-residential property are capped at 10 feet (barbed wire is allowed only on a fence securing a storage/freight area not visible from a right-of-way). Fences and walls are prohibited within a utility easement without an encroachment agreement (only available for property platted after January 1, 1996). The finished side of shadowbox and stockade fences must face the abutting property or right-of-way.
