Can I build a fence?
Yes, subject to Sec. 106.06.32. Maximum fence height is 8 feet (plus up to 6 inches for ground clearance and a decorative cap). Residential fences should generally be wood (stained Western Red Cedar or pre-stained/natural-tone white wood) or black tubular steel; barbed wire and electric fencing are prohibited except on AG parcels over 5 acres with an agricultural exemption. Front yard fences and walls are capped at 30 inches and limited to split-rail, wrought iron, picket, or decorative masonry, unless the lot is over 1 acre. Corner lot fences must stay at least 15 feet from the face of any curb, and fences facing a right-of-way must be board-on-board cedar with a decorative cap and a finished face toward the street. Fence construction or repair covering more than 50 percent of a fence run's length requires a permit. Start by confirming the zoning district with Development Services (Town Hall, 2nd Floor, 100 W. Eldorado Pkwy., Little Elm, TX 75068). This pack covers the incorporated Town of Little Elm only; the ETJ and unincorporated Denton County have no municipal zoning.
