All districts

Fences over 50 percent of a fence run's length require a permit. Maximum height 8 feet (plus up to 6 inches for ground clearance and a decorative cap). Residential fences should generally be wood (stained Western Red Cedar, or pre-stained/natural-tone white wood) or black tubular steel; barbed wire and electric fencing are prohibited except on AG parcels over 5 acres with an agricultural exemption. Front yard fences and walls are capped at 30 inches and limited to split-rail, wrought iron, picket, or decorative masonry (lots over 1 acre are exempt, subject to director approval). Corner lot fences must stay at least 15 feet from the face of any curb. Fences facing a right-of-way must be board-on-board cedar with a decorative cap and a finished face toward the street (Sec. 106.06.32(a)-(b)).
