Can I build a fence in Forney?

Yes, subject to Sec. 41 and a permit. Behind the required front yard line, fences and walls are capped at 8 feet 4 inches. Within the front yard of a single-family or duplex lot adjacent to a public street, only decorative fencing with at least 50 percent open area and a 4-foot maximum height is allowed (up to 6 feet for decorative ornamental iron in AG, or on lots over 1 acre in other districts); no residential fence may sit closer than 15 feet to the public street. Electrical fencing and barbed wire are prohibited except to contain farm animals on parcels of 3 or more acres. Where a multifamily, nonresidential, or manufactured home use backs onto a single-family, two-family, or residential PD lot, a masonry screening wall 6 to 8 feet high is required on the shared line, built by the more intensive use (Sec. 41.2). Confirm sight-visibility triangle rules (Sec. 43.8) before building near a corner. This pack covers incorporated Forney only; the ETJ and unincorporated Kaufman County have no municipal zoning.
