Signs in Princeton, TX

What the Princeton zoning ordinance says about signs, district by district. Section numbers link to the official ordinance.

NC — Neighborhood Convenience district

Signs must comply with the City of Princeton Sign Ordinance, with added district limits: signs limited to the number of tenants, no freestanding signs except one monument sign per tract (naming the district only), all signs flat against the wall within 18 inches of the building face and facing a public street, and no illumination shining on residential properties or using rotating/oscillating beacons.

All districts

Sign design must complement the building's architectural design and match the color rendering submitted with site plan approval, per Sec. 82-6(e)(13). Detailed citywide sign rules are codified in Chapter 58, Signs (Sec. 58-1 through 58-17), a separate chapter from Chapter 82 Zoning: a permit is required to erect or install most signage (Sec. 58-4), sign area and height are measured per defined rules for each sign type (Sec. 58-8), and each sign type carries its own size/height cap, for example wall signs up to 12 square feet in some contexts, a unified development monument sign up to 168 square feet and 10 feet tall, a pole sign up to 25 feet tall and 64 square feet, and a monument identification sign (MIS-1) up to 60 square feet and 8 feet tall (Sec. 58-9). Nonconforming, neglected, and abandoned signs are addressed in Sec. 58-10 through 58-13, and variances/appeals in Sec. 58-14. Some districts add their own sign limits on top of Chapter 58 (for example NC restricts freestanding signs to one monument sign per tract naming the district only, Sec. 82-20(j)). Confirm the exact sign type and current Chapter 58 text for your project with Development Services (972-736-2416) before applying for a sign permit.
