Fences in Princeton, TX

What the Princeton zoning ordinance says about fences, district by district. Section numbers link to the official ordinance.

All districts

Each residential planned-development lot must build a six-foot fence of approved material in the required side and rear yard (measured at adjacent grade), constructed with steel posts, and no fence may sit in the required front yard or beyond the front building line unless separately approved. Where a lot adjoins a different zoning district, the developing property (or, for multifamily next to single-family, the multifamily property; or, for a rezoned tract, the rezoned property) is responsible for building the separating fence or wall. The city's own Development Services FAQ (princetontx.gov/faq.aspx?qid=81) states citywide fence rules in plain language: a permit is required for every fence built or repaired ($25 fee); rear and side yard fences may be up to 6 feet tall from grade using schedule-40 steel posts; front yard fences are capped at 48 inches; and barbed wire fences are prohibited citywide. This FAQ answer is the city's own plain-language summary, not the Fence Ordinance's full codified text, which this pack has still not independently fetched; confirm current specifics with Development Services (972-736-2416) before building.
