All districts

Princeton's zoning ordinance does not use the term "accessory dwelling unit." The closest equivalents in the Sec. 82-27 use chart are "guest house" and "garage apartment." A guest house is living quarters in a detached accessory building for temporary guests only, and by definition may not be rented or used as a separate dwelling (Sec. 82-28); it is a permitted use (X) in A, SF-E, and SF-SE, and requires a specific use permit (S) in SF-1, SF-2, and TF. A garage apartment is a dwelling unit built with a garage where the main structure is an owner-occupied detached dwelling (Sec. 82-28); it requires a specific use permit (S) in A, SF-E, and SF-SE only, and is not listed as permitted or SUP in any other district in the chart. Neither use appears in the multifamily, commercial, or industrial district columns.
