All districts
UDC Sec. 11.9 (Fence and Wall Standards) applies to all fences and walls in all zoning districts. Fences and walls are capped at 6 ft in height citywide (up to 7 ft with Administrator approval where topographic or other site constraints exist), and may not be placed within a sight triangle. Front-yard fences on single-family lots are limited to 3 ft in height outside the sight triangle. Table 11.9 sets permitted fencing materials by use: wood and masonry are broadly permitted for single-family and commercial uses (chain link is prohibited citywide except industrial uses in LI or GI, where it is allowed if not visible from and set back at least 100 ft from a public right-of-way); wrought iron and masonry are permitted for every use category. A continuous fence or wall plane is capped at 100 ft before a material change, column, or landscaped break is required. Confirm the district, use category, and current Sec. 11.9 table with the Planning Department before acting.
