UDC Sec. 4.6.1 requires accessory uses to be subordinate to and in the same zoning district as the primary use, and bars residential accessory uses from commercial purposes other than ancillary home occupations. Sec. 4.6.2 sets accessory building standards: an accessory building cannot be built before the principal structure's construction has commenced (unless the Planning Director approves it for material storage during that construction) and cannot exceed the height of the principal structure. For single-family and two-family residential uses, a lot is limited to one shed, workshop, or similar accessory building per dwelling unit (detached garages, carports, and ADUs are exempt from that count), and accessory buildings cannot exceed 25 percent of the principal structure's first-floor gross floor area (ADUs are excepted and governed separately by Sec. 4.6.3). Carports are permitted in A, SF-E, SF-S, SF-R, SF-MU, 2-F, and MH districts subject to paving, setback, no-prefab-metal, and architectural-compatibility standards in Sec. 4.6.2.B.3. Confirm the district and current Secs. 4.6.1-4.6.2 text with the Planning Department before acting.
