In single-family districts, an accessory building is any subordinate building over 120 square feet without a separate bath or kitchen, not used commercially and not rented (Sec. 24.1). No accessory building may exceed the height of the main structure (Sec. 24.3). Detached accessory buildings must sit in the rear yard, at least 5 feet from any side lot line (10 feet on a side street) and at least 5 feet from any rear lot line, and at least 15 feet from the main building (Sec. 24.4(a)). Accessory buildings over 192 square feet must match the main building's masonry construction; buildings of 192 square feet or less may be masonry, metal or wood in a neutral or matching color, with only one metal or wood accessory building per lot (Sec. 24.4(b)). Barns are a separate category permitted only in A and SF-1, capped at the main building's height and floor area, and may not be rented for events (Sec. 24.5).
