What the McKinney zoning ordinance says about fences, district by district. Section numbers link to the official ordinance.

All districts

Maximum fence height (Table 7-1): 4 feet in a front yard (minimum 50 percent open, wire fences prohibited), 8 feet 6 inches in a side or rear yard behind the front building line (up to 10 feet in industrial districts and on public property). Within the H Historic Overlay, the side/rear maximum drops to 6 feet 8 inches unless a special exception is granted. Electrically charged fences are allowed only in the AG district; barbed wire and fence arms are allowed only in industrial districts or on public property to secure infrastructure, and may not extend past the property line. No fence is permitted in the sight-visibility triangle at street/street or street/alley intersections (20 feet and 15 feet back respectively), or within a drainage easement if it would interfere with drainage flow.
