Fences in Leander, TX

What the Leander zoning ordinance says about fences, district by district. Section numbers link to the official ordinance.

All districts

Art. VI, sec. 16 sets citywide fence standards. Barbed wire is prohibited in residential districts except in the SFR district, for agricultural uses in any district, or to repair existing barbed wire fencing. Fences along a common property boundary are capped at 8 ft (fences exceeding 8 ft, up to a 10 ft total including barbed or razor wire, are allowed only to impede access to hazardous or secured facilities such as electrical substations). Front-yard fences in single-family and two-family districts are capped at 3 ft; no fencing at all is permitted in the front or side-street setback of other districts. A fence or other structure over 20 percent solid or taller than 3 ft cannot sit within 25 ft of a right-of-way intersection. Chain-link fencing for any use other than single-family or duplex must be black or green vinyl-coated. There is no height limit for fences enclosing exotic hoof stock. Confirm the district and current art. VI, sec. 16 text with the Leander Planning Department before acting.
