Residential front yard fences are limited to 3.5 ft. (42 in.) with at least 50 percent transparency along at least half the height; residential side and rear fences may reach 6 ft. (72 in.) (UDC 10.408.4). Electrically charged, barbed wire, and razor wire fences are prohibited except for livestock, public safety institutions, and construction sites (UDC 10.408.3.2.3). Makeshift materials such as plywood and corrugated sheet metal are prohibited, columns may exceed the fence by up to 6 in., and fences must be maintained upright and in good repair (UDC 10.408.3).
