All districts

The City of Forney Sign Code (Sec. 48) governs placement and construction of all outdoor signs citywide and, to the extent state law allows, in the ETJ (Sec. 48.1.A). Most signs require a permit (Sec. 48.4, Sec. 48.10 permit fees and procedures); a limited list of small or temporary signs is exempt from permitting (Sec. 48.3). Permitted sign types and allowances vary by zoning district and sign type (Sec. 48.7, Sec. 48.9 number of permitted signs). Headline figures: a freestanding monument sign on a lot of 5 acres or less is capped at 8 feet in height and 64 square feet in area (10 feet and 150 square feet on lots over 5 acres), one per lot with added separation rules for larger lots (Sec. 48.2.F, definition 71). A wall sign is capped at 10 percent of the front wall area or 60 square feet, whichever is less, on the front facade (15 square feet on a side facade), generally limited to one sign per facade (Sec. 48.2.F, definition 129). Confirm the applicable district's sign allowance and obtain a permit before installing a sign.
