Front yard fences and walls are capped at 36 inches and must be split-rail, wrought iron, picket, or decorative masonry (lots over 1 acre are exempt, subject to Director approval) (Sec. 14.04.305(b)(13)). Materials are generally limited to wood (cedar or white wood, stained a natural tone) or black tubular steel; chain link, vinyl, split-rail, and composite materials require a Minor Modification (Sec. 14.04.305(b)(2), (d)(1)). Barbed wire and electric fencing are prohibited except on agricultural land over 1 acre for legitimate agricultural purposes (Sec. 14.04.305(b)(4)). All fence work requires a permit except minor repairs under 50 percent of a run (Sec. 14.04.305(a)(2)).
