All districts

Murfreesboro's Chart 1 row 'Accessory Dwelling Unit' is not a backyard cottage. Section 2 defines it as a dwelling unit used in conjunction with a commercial or industrial use, attached to or located within the commercial or industrial building and occupied by the owner or an employee of the business. Chart 1 Endnote 1 permits it only in the OG-R, OG, CL, CF, CH, MU, CBD, H-I, G-I, L-I, CM, CM-R, and CM-RS-8 zones. In the RS-15 through RS-4 and RS-A districts the comparable option is an accessory apartment, which Chart 1 shows as a special-permit use under Endnote 8 requiring Board of Zoning Appeals approval subject to Section 9 standards, or administrative Planning approval within the City Core Overlay under Section 24 Article VI. Confirm the exact district, overlay, and permit path with Planning. (Corrected 2026-07-02 against the May 21, 2026 Appendix A revision.)
