When does the Rochester Hills Zoning Board of Appeals meet, and how does the process work?

The City currently posts the Zoning/Sign Board of Appeals as generally meeting on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 pm at 1000 Rochester Hills Dr, but the schedule is set by posting, so confirm the current posted schedule and agenda calendar before planning around a date. The board has 7 members plus 2 alternates appointed by City Council (§ 138-2.103).

What it decides:

  • Dimensional variances, under the practical difficulty standard, by majority vote (§ 138-2.407).
  • Use variances, under the unnecessary hardship standard, by two-thirds vote, after the required prerequisites (§ 138-2.408).
  • Appeals of administrative decisions, filed within 21 days (§ 138-2.404).
  • Home occupation referrals, where it can issue an annually renewable permit after a public hearing (§ 138-4.413.C).
