Is Wake Forest about to adopt a new zoning ordinance that would change these rules?

Not yet. The Town has been working on a comprehensive rewrite of its Unified Development Ordinance since 2022. A draft was circulated in December 2024 and was under consideration for adoption, but state legislation enacted that same month placed new restrictions on local zoning amendments, and the Town has been revising the draft since to comply before it goes back through Planning Board review and a Board of Commissioners adoption vote. As of this pack's research date, that rewrite had not been adopted, and every rule in this pack is drawn from the July 2022 version of the UDO, which remains the version in force. If you are relying on this pack for a decision with a long lead time, check the Town's Unified Development Ordinance page or call the Planning Department at 919-435-9510 for the current adoption status before proceeding.
