How big can my accessory building be in Smyrna?
Detached accessory structure size in residential districts is tiered by parcel size under Section 3.100.E: 600 sq ft on parcels up to 15,000 sq ft, 800 sq ft up to 1 acre, 1,200 sq ft up to 3 acres, 1,500 sq ft up to 5 acres, and 2,400 sq ft above 5 acres, measured by footprint. The residential district use lists also require accessory buildings to sit in the side or rear yard at least 5 ft from any lot line. In commercial and industrial districts the cap is 10 percent of the principal building's floor area up to 5,000 sq ft, and agricultural structures on 15 acre or larger parcels are exempt from the size caps with 10 ft side and rear setbacks. District coverage caps still count accessory buildings.
