How close to the property line can I build a shed in Novi?

A detached shed or garage must sit at least 6 feet from any interior side or rear lot line and at least 10 feet from your house or any main building (Section 4.19.1.G). It cannot stand in any required front yard or required exterior side yard, which on a corner lot means keeping it behind the street-side setback line as well (Section 4.19.1.B).

Special line cases (Section 4.19.1.H): where your rear lot line abuts an alley, the shed may come within 1 foot of the alley line; where the rear lot line abuts a street right-of-way, the shed must respect the district's full front setback from that line; and no accessory building may ever sit in an easement or dedicated right-of-way.

If the shed exceeds 1 story or 14 feet where taller accessory buildings are allowed, it needs 1 additional foot of setback for each foot of height over 14 feet (Section 4.19.1.I). Mobile home park sites have their own shed rules, 3 feet from lot lines, 20 feet from any public street, and 10 feet from the neighboring home (Section 3.9.14).
