Can I run a daycare from my home in Rochester Hills?

The answer depends on the licensed facility type and capacity. A state-licensed family child-care home for six or fewer falls in the permitted residential-facility category (§ 138-4.435), and family child-day-care homes are exempt from site-plan review under § 138-2.200.B, Table 1.

A day-care center is a different use: conditional in RE through R-4 under Table 4, with standards in § 138-4.421. Group child-care homes for more than six require separate classification and standards under § 138-4.435, including applicable separation, outdoor play, pickup and operating-hour limits. The use table’s capacity wording and detailed section are not perfectly aligned; confirm the licensed category with Planning.

For conditional uses, Planning Commission hearing/recommendation precedes City Council decision (§ 138-2.301).
