Can I run a home business here?
Huntersville's ordinance addresses home occupations under Article 9.19, confirmed this session directly from the Town's own ordinance text (fetched via the ALP viewer's print endpoint): a home occupation is permitted accessory to any dwelling unit except manufactured housing, must be clearly incidental to the residential use and not change the dwelling's essential residential character, is limited to one non-resident employee, may use no more than 25 percent of the dwelling's total floor area if housed within the dwelling (or be housed in a garage or similar accessory structure), may not have visible outside display of stock in trade or visible outdoor storage/equipment beyond what would normally be associated with the residential use, may not be visible from an adjacent dwelling or the street, may only use passenger-type vehicles, may not produce noise, electrical/magnetic interference, vibration, heat, glare, or similar nuisances outside the dwelling, may not regularly draw clients to the dwelling, and may not carry business identification or advertising signage. An outdoor pottery kiln needs a semi-opaque screen, a secured work area, and a minimum 10-foot setback from abutting property lines. Confirm the current Article 9.19 text and your zoning district with the Planning Department at 704-875-6541 before starting a home business. This pack covers both incorporated Huntersville and its zoned ETJ.
