Can I build a fence?
Huntersville's ordinance addresses fence and wall height under the "Fences and walls" standard within Article 8.11 (Permitted Accessory Uses In All Districts), confirmed this session directly from the Town's own ordinance text (fetched via the ALP viewer's print endpoint): in a residential, mixed-use, or commercial district's established front yard, a fence or wall must be a minimum of 2 feet and a maximum of 5 feet in height (decorative caps/spires above the highest horizontal member are not counted); in a residential or mixed-use established rear or side yard abutting a street or alley, up to 6 feet unless set back 15 or more feet inside the property boundary (within the first 15 feet, chain link or similar material is allowed only with a qualifying evergreen or masonry screen); in a residential or mixed-use established rear or side yard not abutting a street or alley, up to 8 feet; and in a commercial district, up to 8 feet within the first 15 feet of an established side or rear yard abutting a street or alley (chain link permitted there only with a masonry/solid-wood interior screen plus vegetative buffer), with additional screening required where a commercial-district fence abuts a residential or mixed-use district. Confirm the current Article 8.11 text with the Planning Department at 704-875-6541 before building. This pack covers both incorporated Huntersville and its zoned ETJ.
